Should I go home or apply in the U.S.? The final step in the permanent resident's process is the application for the green card. There are two ways to accomplish this, inside the U.S. or adjustment of status (ADJ) or outside the U.S. called Immigrant Visa Processing. (IVP) Assuming you qualify for both options which way should you go? Read on.

ADJ-Processing time 2-3 years

• No need to travel abroad-cost and time factor
• Immediate work authorization for family members
• Continue to work after temporary visa maxes out
• Problem cases can be resolved while your are permitted to remain in the U.S.
• No need to gather individual country police clearances

IVP- Processing time 1 year or under

• Faster process

• Children reaching 21 (aging out) in two to three years

• No problems/issues in a case

• Travel expense not a factor

• Change in circumstances IE: employment, promotion, relocation, etc.
